Behind the Brand

"I have been designing and making bags and accessories for the best part of twenty years, although I have been sewing for many more. Growing up, my mum, a milliner by trade, taught me to sew as a young girl, providing me with many 'wrinkles' of knowledge along the way; my dad designed and built an entire house around our family (in his spare time!), and his determination and creativity was a great source of inspiration to us all. The rest I have learned from books, trial and error, (an awful lot of error) and of course, the internet.

I would like to introduce you to my grandparents, Jack and Rose Chumbley, the inspiration behind my small accessory making business 'Jack & Rose', that I run from a small workshop space in my hometown of Newport Pagnell.

Jack and Rose were Londoners.  They lived through the war at a time when people 'did' for themselves and everything was recycled and reused. Jack was a master plasterer in and around London and a fireman in the war. Rose turned her hand to many things; a greengrocer, a poet and a brilliant pianist who could play by ear any tune you challenged her with!

So with a nod to the past, I hope that my accessory collection will appeal to all generations and they will enjoy owning a Jack and Rose bag, belt or cap as much as I have enjoyed creating them" Lisa

In those days things were handmade, more out of necessity than choice, but something of that bygone age appeals to me.  Although my designs are not vintage in the true sense of the word, I hope that one day they will be.
